Dennis takes out the National Album of the Year Award at a packed Founder's Theatre in Hamilton Saturday 18th August 2007.
The show, presented by KiwiProam, is THE most prestigious Country Music Event of the year with a top line up of talent from all over the country including Legends of Country Music in NZ and young up and coming entertainers.
With moving lights, fantastic sound and top artists from throughout NZ, the HUGE audience were witness to a night to be remembered.
Patsy Riggir won the Legend Award last year so was guest this year and sang 3 of her most memorable songs, much to the delight of the packed venue.
Gray Bartlett won the Legend Award this year and performed two songs with Chet O'Connell (Rhythm) from The Galley Slaves Band who were the backing band for the night - unsurpassed talent there with Rob Galley (Lead) Mike McCarthy(Keyboard) Neil Hannan (Bass) Bruce King(Drums). NZ's top Backing Vocalists, Sharon McIntyre and Rose-Marie Hack put the icing on the cake with their wonderful harmonies.
The Horizon Award went to Aaron Jury. The other artists competing - Kylie Austin, Luke Herlihy and Leanne Cryer - were tough competition. Paul Sharplin who won it last year, was guest artist. An incredible voice and would be right at home with any top international singer.
The NCMA Artist of the Year Award went to Barry Saunders (x Warratahs) who sang his popular tunes from the late '80's.
Dennis sang his 'chosen' songs - Maku, Rags to Riches and The Mountain. Great crowd response to both his singing and his 'patter'! The National Album of the Year Award is Dennis' first NZ Award after having been runner up on 4 occasions in the Tui/Clear Awards! For those of you who saw Dennis on the Good Morning Show, you will remember he said that he thought his name could be 'runner up' or 'nominee' as he had never clinched the top place - now that has changed!
Full credit and top praise to the promoters/presenters of the KiwiProam Country Music Organisation. http://www.kiwiproamcountrymusic.co.nz/index.html They present a show of International standard and nothing is spared to bring the ultimate in Country Music entertainment to NZ'ers. Mr Potts (Keith Urban's International Manager) said the very same words in his speech before he presented the Awards. He was very much impressed with the NZ talent he witnessed last night and the way in which the Awards show was presented.
Dennis would like to acknowledge the expert musicianship, guidance and friendship of Mike McCarthy on most of his 18 Albums, Ginny & Errol Peters from Pegasus Publishing, the Radio Stations who play his music and particularly the Maori stations and private stations who have never had a problem playing Country Music! - Dennis' show band and Morrie Smith from Rajon Music Group for all their contributions to the success of this Award.
"Last but by no means least, thankyou to YOU, the public and loyal supporters, for purchasing my music throughout my career."
Irish, American, Canadian, English and German artists were nominated in the Overseas Artists Section of the ACRAs
